The Brewers Association, a Denver-based industry group, estimates that global demand for hops exceeds supply by 10 percent to 15 percent. Add poor harvests, the loss of arable land to development, and farmers increasingly turning to corn instead of barley and hops – thank you, ethanol! – and you have Beercalypse Now.
